A valve cartridge is attached to the valve body with three screws. Once installed in the piping system, cartridge design offers the advantage of cartridge replacement within a few minutes. Tedious dismantling of the entire valve body from the pipeline using a large wrench is not necessary because only three screws have to be loosened.
Cartridge design offers another advantage - small valve diameters even at the highest system pressures.
Pneumatic valve drives with one, two, or three cylinders are available allowing switching even at enormous pressures of up to 2900 psi. The drives have small diameters and are arranged in tandem (one behind the other). In many cases, this narrow tandem design is the better solution as compared to a single drive with a large diameter. These valves can be installed next to each other to save space, even in extremely confined spaces. A version with a rubber bellows is available for heavily contaminated or sticky media.
Switching times can be set as desired using throttles on the pilot valve. Opening and closing can be delayed up to three seconds to prevent hydraulic pressure surges in pipeline systems.
Cartridge valves are available with nominal orifice sizes of approx. 0.375" to 0.50". Depending on pressure differential, drives with either one, two or three pistons will be recommended; the pressure diagrams on the data sheets will determine the correct design. Valve design is application-specific and will be finalized through consultation with the customer.
